Kevin Jorgeson, TOMS and St. Louis Brand So iLL Pledge to Get 100,000 Kids Climbing with 1Climb
Can you remember how amazing it felt to climb a tree as a kid? Professional climber Kevin Jorgeson and Daniel Chancellor, co-founder of climbing brand So iLL, definitely do—and they also know how deeply a child’s life can be changed when they discover and develop a dedication to a sport they love. That’s why they c0-founded the nonprofit 1Climb, which aspires to introduce 100,000 kids across America to the sport of climbing. And you’ve got a chance to help them in a big way—and grab some cool swag for yourself while you’re at it.
“Climbing changed my life. When I was nine, I went to the grand opening of a climbing gym and from there on out, there was life before climbing and life after climbing. 1Climb has the potential to change the trajectory of a kid’s life. For that simple reason, we want to introduce climbing to as many kids as possible,” says Jorgeson
1Climb is kicking off an Indiegogo campaign to build climbing walls at Boys and Girls Clubs across the country, as well as to provide day passes to local climbing gyms, like Climb So iLL, for kids who aren’t in easy reach of the new walls. Campaign donors will have a chance to grab an exclusive climbing or lifestyle shoe, via an exciting collaboration between So iLL and charity shoe giant, TOMS.
“Climbing can be a positive sense of escape and a positive activity that they [kids] build some identity around. I’m excited to see and meet some of the kids that will climb for the first time. I’m really excited to see in 5, 10, 15 years who these kids become,” says TOMS Founder, Blake Mycoskie
Need a little more motivation? Maybe “Game of Thrones” and “Frontier” actor Jason Mamoa can get you board; he was an early supporter of 1Climb. Or just think back to how it felt to be a kid in a tree, feeling like you were on top of the world.
