At a press event on Sept. 11, ALIVE was on the scene as The Breakfast Club’s DJ Envy sat with A&R AJ Ahmed  and spoke about the one-of-a-kind mobile studio now making its way through STL. Area hip-hop artists are encouraged to stop by the studio and drop 16 bars over a pre-recorded track of their choice. Submissions will be reviewed by judges and the top 50 will be uploaded to the Jack ‘N for Beats website to be viewed and shared by the public. After they are uploaded, a public voting phase will commence and 10 semi-finalists will perform on stage for a panel of judges. The contest is free to enter and the winner receives $5,000.

When asked about the program, DJ Envy, who boasts more than 462,000 Twitter followers and has toured with hip-hop superstars Nelly and Fabolous, had this to say, “As a personality on one of the most popular hip-hop radio shows in the country, I’m honored to support a program like Jack’N for Beats that helps cultivate and expose new talent. For Jack Daniels to even provide an opportunity like this for up-and-coming artists, especially in hip hop, is truly amazing.”

All artists must be 21 to enter. The tour plans to be in the St. Louis area until Oct. 23 and its next stop is this Thursday, Sept. 25, at Florrisant Dairy. Find a full list of the mobile studio’s tour stops and more information on the Jack’N for Beats website.
