Tonight BLUSH kicks off a three-day anniversary event that marks eight years of delivering carefully curated fashion to the St. Louis shopping mavens. The event features a return of a special capsule collection by Virgins Saints & Angels, as well as various in-store specials and perks. We spoke to owner Sarah King about the milestone and what’s next for the growing boutique.

ALIVE: Why did you decided to open Blush?

Sarah King: Ever since I can remember, I have been drawn to fashion and the joy of styling women. In college, I decided that I could create the shopping environment I felt St. Louis was lacking upon graduation, and thus BLUSH’s doors opened early March 2006, three months after I graduated from Missouri State University.

ALIVE: How do you think Blush developed into an important staple of the St. Louis boutique scene?

SK: First off, I’m flattered that BLUSH is considered an important staple in the St. Louis Boutique scene! We strive to provide a welcoming, service-focused atmosphere while providing stylish, fashion-driven apparel and accessories to everyday women … which is what we have been doing since day one.

ALIVE: What are you most happy about accomplishing in your eight years with Blush?

SK: The last eight years have gone by in a whirlwind! If I had to choose one thing that brings me the most joy, it would be all the relationships I have developed with the St. Louis community. Whether it be a customer that has turned into a friend, industry contacts at various events, working together with a St. Louis-based charity to better our community, or watching a young customer grow from high school to a college graduate and starting a family of their own. Seeing people come back year after year, season after season … that’s what it’s all about.

ALIVE: What are you most excited about for the future of Blush?

SK: I’d love to continue to build on what I’ve created here at BLUSH, and grow into offering additional products, a possible larger venue, and create a lifestyle brand that touches people in various aspects of life. I have lots of ideas on the back-burner, waiting for the right moment to come to fruition.
