Make easy work of holiday shoppingand pick up a few goodies for yourselfin this family-friendly neighborhood.

Inspired gift giving is an art; it takes patience and a little bit of extra time to pick presents that are truly unique and tailored to the recipient. That’s why this year, I’m taking my shopping list to Downtown Webster Groves, where gift shops and fun specialty stores abound. It’s a great neighborhood to find outside-the-box presents for everyone, from your co-workers to the kids.

Have a sweet-toothed candy aficionado on your list? Just Around The Corner is a retro shop that stocks sweets from yesteryear—think salt water taffy, licorice, LemonHeads, Necco Wafers, pure cane sugar sodas and treats made right here in St. Louis. Owners and sisters Cheryl and Renee can put together a gift basket of goodies for anyone on your list. The cozy space is attached to an events venue that the sisters also run, which can be rented out for holiday parties.

At Apple of Your Eye, a store packed with whimsical gifts for every occasion, owner Kerry can take nearly anything in the store and give it a personalized touch. The best part is, she can personalize gifts while you wait; Anything to save time during this hectic season is a plus in my book. I love the store’s selection of holiday ornaments, jewelry and home décor items, all which Kerry can hand paint or etch with a name or special message.

I have a few girlfriends who love to be pampered, and at Bella Capelli Salon, they know how to make a girl (or guy) look and feel good. Their staff of talented stylists and estheticians stay on the cutting edge of the industry and use the latest techniques for cuts and color services. I pick up a few gift cards for the gals. With all of the parties and events coming up, what better gift than a fresh look for the New Year?

At first, Yo My Goodness, a self-serve frozen yogurt shop that opened just a few months ago, lures me in with its bright and cherry lime-green interior. It keeps me intrigued with the 12 flavors of frozen yogurt and over 24 toppings waiting to be sampled. During the holidays, the shop offers seasonal flavors such as pumpkin pie, gingerbread and cranberry. Gift cards and quarts are available for gifting, or simply treat yourself to a cup after a long day of shopping. No guilty conscience here; each four-ounce serving is just 100 calories. What’s more, the yogurt and some of the fresh toppings are sourced locally.
