Guy Files: 5 Questions With Fashion Designer Shan Keith

By Josh Nichols

Shan Keith is a designer with a vision. As a finalist on “Project Runway” spin-off “Under the Gunn,” Keith showcased his talent on a national level. Last week, he delivered an amazing showing of menswear for the Gent! Men’s Designer Showcase at Mungenast Lexus of St. Louis. His designs are expertly tailored; he thinks outside the box to create unique clothing that is still very wearable. I had the opportunity to sit and chat with this innovative designer, and here’s what he had to say:

Josh Nichols: What was your inspiration for this collection?

Shan Keith: I basically wanted to showcase a lot of different techniques in this collection. I was inspired by bohemian-chic style that could still be wearable for a man. Professional, men’s bohemian-chic, and contemporary street was the inspiration for this collection.

JN: Do you have a favorite item in this collection?

SK: Do I have to pick just one? I really like the plaid suits. I think the navy and green looks great and will be a huge thing for fall. I always love black and white. If I had to pick one thing, though, it would have to be the jumpsuits. I think that was a new way to show professional menswear and I’m really happy with that.

JN: What is your favorite trend that we’re seeing in fashion right now?

SK:  I’m a big fan of hats. You can definitely see that in this collection. Hats are really evolving, and you will see them throughout every season. Obviously, leather is really big right now, too. For me, though, its gotta be the hats.

JN: What are some of your current projects?

SK: I’m currently working with some boutiques to get my designs out there and more accessible. I’m also talking to a local manufacturer to produce my designs for boutique presentation. This October, expect to see a major fashion show event that includes a pop-up boutique.

JN: While we are waiting for those opportunities to see your work, how can our readers get their hands on a Shan Keith piece to wear now?

SK: Right now, my website is in production, and that will be the best way to keep up to date on everything very soon. In the meantime, people have just been contacting me directly.  They can email me at shankeith48@gmail.com. People can also hit me up on Facebook or Instagram (@Shankeith1)
