Fur Real

From provocative to vintage-inspired, there’s something “fur” everyone this season

The slimmed down look of this season’s fur accessories adds all of the glamour and none of the volume—with everything from stoles and wraps to gloves and handbags taking the place of long, heavy coats and other traditional interpretations of the trend. Just one glimpse of Giorgio Armani’s rebellious fall collection, and you know the label’s inspiration had absolutely nothing to do with grandma’s closet. Of the handful of fur pieces shown, it was the off-the-shoulder technicolor pink and red garments that really stood out. The aesthetic was decidedly much more “working girl” than “Golden Girls,” with a playful theme that was further reinforced by the addition of tilted fedoras. At L’Wren Scott, fur took on the image of Old Hollywood glamour with a modern day utilitarianism twist in a few scarf-meets-stole moments that were truly inspiring. While both designers definitely brought it, the moral of the story is this: For fall, anything goes—as long as it’s fur.
