When Busch Stadium opens their gates this afternoon, fans should take note of the new dining options debuting for the season. The updated roster of dishes and drinks now available at the ballpark nods to the new trends and tastes that are currently taking place throughout the food scene. Fresh, high-quality ingredients are certainly the main focus as well as new options for the luxury suite goers, such as barrel-aged cocktails. When combined with the dining experiences at Ball Park Village and other surrounding establishments, foodies have a lot of great meals in store as they cheer on the Cardinals.

At the concession stands, be on the look out for a new riff on the go-to meal at the ballpark—a hot dog. Rather than sticking with a classic all-beef frank, this year there is a new version that combines the complex kick of pastrami with the classic American hot dog. Also, nachos won’t be the only topping-laden option around concession stands with a new line of flatbreads providing plenty of options for fans looking to sink their teeth into something a little more dense and delicious than a simple tortilla chip.

Those craving something a little lighter and more tropical should check out the new Island Grill that can be found outside of section 142. Here, fresh items like fish tacos, crab cake sliders and shrimp po’boy sandwiches will anchor the menu. Although fish might not seem like your standard ballpark fare, the delicious dishes are a welcomed alternative packed with zesty flavors. Updates have also been made to the luxury suites, where the new “Butcher Block” experience allows guests to choose from carvings of turkey, beef, lamb or salmon. The additions continue behind the bar with premium wines on tap, barrel-aged cocktails and a thirst-quenching frozen apple cider.

Even if you can’t make it inside Busch Stadium for Opening Day, you can still be a part of the action at Mike Shannon’s. There will certainly be no one going hungry during the festivities thanks to Mike Shannon’s line of dry-aged steaks, which are just one avenue to explore on their vast menu. If you’d prefer to nosh while enjoying the view from their patio, there are also plenty of offerings provided by the Pappy’s Smokehouse food stand located on the party deck. Between the great food and electric atmosphere right next to the stadium, Mike Shannon’s is good bet for those not wanting to miss out on the fun of Opening Day. 620 Market St., Downtown, 314.421.1540.
