When it comes to the season’s essential sandals, extraordinary wedges reign as ringleaders of the pack

Yes, your beloved gladiator sandals and classic espadrilles are definitely acceptable go-tos this summer. But, beware: If you’re not “movin’ on up” to styles more extreme, your look is in danger of falling flat. Thanks to such designers as Sarah Burton and Miuccia Prada, who recently debuted bold footwear with curved bases and intricate cutouts, comparatively basic slides and platforms (i.e., those lacking color, details or embellishments) have taken a step down in the eyes of the trend-savvy. The secret to remaining sufficiently elevated? Be sure to pick up a pair with striking wedge heels. Although it might take a while to decide which of the many innovative incarnations you deem most delicious, they’ll be well worth the wait. Once you finally get a “piece of the pie,” you can walk tall all season.
