Expertly Designed, Affordable Furniture in Detroit That’ll Last a Lifetime
Millennial co-founders Kyle Hoff and Alex O’Dell founded Floyd Furniture with the belief that good design should solve problems—and not just the visual, functional or aesthetic problems designers and artisans face when crafting a new piece of furniture. The EPA recently concluded that about 8.5 million tons of office furniture alone ends up in landfills. “Furniture should be made for the home, not the landfill,” they say.
It’s this concept of beautifully simple, classic design that lasts a lifetime that underscores Hoff and O’Dell’s mission, which has manifested into popular design pieces like their platform bed, made of birch and steel. With a price point of $650 for a full/queen-sized bed frame, the pieces are an investment, but payment-plan options and 10-year warranty reflect the brand’s commitment to lowering barriers of entry for owning good design.
We also love the classic Floyd table, a grounding staple of any interior, made of smooth linoleum, birch and steel. Settled in Detroit’s Eastern Market neighborhood, the brand met the market’s demand for their pieces after a wildly successful Kickstarter campaign to get the idea of the ground, with a goal of $18,000 that ended up bringing in $250,000.
