Erdos at Home was launched only a year ago by self-taught furniture designer John Erdos, who sought an opportunity to bring custom-designed pieces to the market. Next week a new store will open in STL, offering four different furniture collections along with complimentary interior design services. Read on for more on Erdos’ design aesthetic, company mission and current goals for his brand.

What is the company mission and concept?
To bring well-designed and functional furniture and furnishings to the market at a satisfying price point. Right up there with design has got to be comfort, ease of use and fine quality.

How do you describe the aesthetic of the brand?
We have four different distinct but cohesive collections that are based on destinations. The Westport is more traditional and stands the test of time without being predictable. The Hampton is all about relaxation and focuses on weathered woods, forgiving fabrics and oversized sofas. Tribeca takes inspiration from lofts in Manhattan and has a modern industrial look. Palm Springs has a mid-century modern vibe with pops of color. People mix various pieces between collections. Above all, we want customers to be inspired.

What kind of customer do your products target?
We target multiple types of customers with our good, better and best pricing strategy. Millennials furnishing their first homes and apartments are a big audience, but so are baby-boomers becoming empty-nesters and looking for more luxurious pieces for their second homes. The interior design community is also a customer.

How do your interior design services work in tandem with your stores?
They’re a big part of the brand. We offer a free service that works with any sized space. A lot of people know what they like but don’t know how to put it all together.

Why St. Louis?
We loved the location in STL, so it was an easy decision. It’s a fantastic, accessible area, a beautiful space with new renovations.

What goals do you have for the company in the near future?
Our immediate goal is to establish the brand and for people to experience what we’re offering. We’re working on our fall collections right now and merchandise very much like a fashion line featuring limited production of new styles for each season.

Erdos at Home will host a store launch event Feb. 18 from 6-8pm at 11 The Boulevard.
