Enjoy Savory (and Sweet) Specials During Cortex Restaurant Week

 In Event, Food

The start of April sees St. Louis’ 200-acre innovation district host its first annual Cortex Restaurant Week, created by Phyllis Ellison of Cortex and Brianna Tobias of CIC to celebrate the great mix of eateries that have opened near the community over the last few years. From coffee and cocktails to dinner and dessert, participating restaurants are setting a high standard with appetizing specials, limited edition menus, pop-up locations and philanthropic partnerships.

To quench your thirst, drop by specialty roaster Kaldi’s Coffee for buy one, get one free drinks from 3 p.m. to close; receive 20 percent off at Scarlett’s Wine Bar; or revel in an extended happy hour from 2-7 p.m. at The Scottish Arms, including a special promotion of vodka, gin and whiskey from the historic, Kansas City-based distillery J. Rieger & Co. Nautical-themed Narwhal’s Crafted is also mixing things up with two unique Restaurant Week flavors: Matcha Gin & Tonic and Junglebird.

If you’re in need of a quick and casual lunch, Yiro/Gyro, a hot spot for Greek fare in the city, will offer 10 percent off all orders with the mention of Cortex Restaurant Week; Park Avenue Coffee will discount 20 percent from all sandwiches, wraps and salads; and Vicia will tempt you with half off an order of the Purple Top Turnip Tacos (pictured in the featured image).

For something more substantial, The Chocolate Pig, Juniper and Retreat Gastropub are similarly offering discounted lunch menus, as well as toothsome dinner specials. The Chocolate Pig’s three-course, $35 prix fixe menu features root beer-glazed pork belly, heirloom tomatoes, sockeye salmon, ricotta mezzaluna, salted caramel namaleka and more, with 10 percent of the week’s proceeds going to the St. Louis Learning Disabilities Association. Juniper’s $18 dinner menu includes one entrée—which changes daily—two sides and a cookie, while patrons of Retreat Gastropub can enjoy 25 percent off small plates, soups, salads and desserts.

Celebrations kick off on Saturday, March 30, with a free Swedish meatball tasting at IKEA from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cortex Restaurant Week runs from April 1 to 7. See all participating restaurants here.
