Charities from across the area are gearing up for events that not only benefit the local community, but also provide an opportunity for foodies to raise their forks and glasses for a good cause. This spring, consider doing your part by partaking in one of these terrific events.

Toast to Spring
Show your support for military families who have lost a loved one in the line of duty by joining Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse in a special wine tasting event to benefit the nonprofit agency, Always Brothers. Beginning at 6pm on Friday, March 28, guests will sip from 36 wines that include vintages from Heitz, Stag’s Leap, Faust, Conn Creek and Prisoner. Enjoy a selection of appetizers along with the tasting and be sure to take advantage of the retail-priced bottles offered during the event. Call for reservations. 315 Chestnut St., Downtown, 314.259.3200.

A Tasteful Affair
This will be the 26th year that Food Outreach and local food industry professionals have teamed up for A Tasteful Affair. The fundraiser has turned into a yearly tradition for foodies who get to enjoy samples from 50 of the best area chefs and also participate in the vast auction. All of the proceeds go directly to Food Outreach, whose mission is to provide HIV/AIDS and cancer patients with proper nutrition. A Tasteful Affair will be held at the Four Seasons Hotel on Sunday, April 6 from 2pm to 5:30pm. Tickets are available through Eventbrite. 999 N. Second St., Downtown, 314.881.5800.

Uncorked – A Cause for the Paws
Raise a glass while enjoying the sprawling views of the Wine Country Gardens and help continue the efforts of Five Acres Animal Shelter, the only no-kill shelter in St. Charles County. The event will include tastings of wine, beer and food along with a live auction. Uncorked – A Cause for the Paws will be held at Wine Country Gardens on Sunday, May 18 from 1pm to 4pm. Tickets are available through Five Acres. 2711 South Highway 94, Defiance, Mo, 636.798.2288.

Dine Out for the Cure
Mark your calendars and make your reservations for the 6th Annual Dine Out for the Cure – a day when participating restaurants donate half of the bill to the Susan G. Komen Foundation in St. Louis. Last year more than 100 area eateries took part in the event and raised over $44,000. Dine Out for the Cure will take place on Thursday, June 12. Check out the list of the participating restaurants.
