Just this week, Jilly’s Cupcake Bar & Café unveiled their latest sweet creation, Jilly’s Ice Cream Bar, located next door to the original storefront at 8509 Delmar Blvd. Since their grand opening on Monday, June 2, Jilly’s has been scooping from their line of 19 different flavors, which are divided up into classics (think vanilla and chocolate fudge swirl), cupcake-inspired (a Jilly’s cupcake in frozen form) and chef-created (over-the-top and loaded with flavor).

Jilly’s has approached ice cream making with the same creative spunk as their award-winning cupcakes. All flavors are created in-house and feature house-made elements, such as Jilly’s own chocolate chips in the “chippermint” and their swirls of sauces that are all cooked from scratch. Even their waffle cones are made in-house using Jilly’s cupcake batter, so one bite of a bright red cone reveals that the color isn’t just decorative, but rather is made using their red velvet recipe. Also, the space itself looks like the Cupcake Bar & Café with bright splashes of color, funky accents and an all-around celebratory feel.

Fans of Jilly’s cupcakes should be thrilled to taste the same winning flavor combinations in frozen form. The decadent “Space monkey” begins with chocolate-banana ice cream that’s mixed with chunks of banana-toffee cake and toffee bits along with swirls of caramel and cream cheese icing. For that extra buzz of caffeine try the “Cuban Coffee,” which is anchored by Cuban coffee ice cream with coffee chip cake morsels and dark chocolate cream cheese icing along with swirls of espresso buttercream and toffee dulce de leche. Or, bring a scoop of breakfast to your cone with “My Lucky Charm,” an ice cream that begins with a base steeped in Lucky Charms cereal before being churned and combined with strawberry wafer pearls and plenty of the iconic mini marshmallows.

Inside of the Ice Cream Bar the frozen treats aren’t the only cool addition – a new private event space means Jilly’s can now accommodate a wider range of parties and business functions. The atmosphere is still upbeat and airy, incorporating reclaimed wood tables and accents that were hand-crafted by local furniture guru, Mwanzi.

Open Sunday through Thursday from 11am to 9pm and Friday through Saturday from 11am to 10pm. 8509 Delmar Blvd., University City, 314.993.5455.
