Death in the Afternoon Announces Soft And Official Opening Dates

 In Food

The next venture by members-only Blood & Sand, called Death in the Afternoon, is set to officially open its doors on Monday, June 9, at 808 Chestnut St. in Downtown. The restaurant space will fill a void left by Joe’s Chili Bowl at The Terrace View in Citygarden and will provide owners TJ Vytlacil and Adam Frager an opportunity to branch out from the fine-dining feel of Blood & Sand.

Following a RSVP-only soft opening on Thursday, June 5 from 11am to 3pm, Death in the Afternoon will be catering to the public lunchtime crowd by the beginning of next week. Earlier this winter, Frager shared plans for Death in the Afternoon with The Dish. “It’s going to be food everyone knows and enjoys and loves, but hopefully done just extremely well,” said Frager.

On the menu is an international array of popular street food, ranging from Japanese steam buns and pork ramen to Italian sub sandwiches and house-made, all-beef hot dogs. Snacks to start off the meal include hummus and house-made charcuterie, such as coppa and bresaola, which are aged up to three months. Salad options include chicken spiedie (an Italian-American term originating from the word, “spiedo,” which refers to cooking with skewers) chopped salad with chickpeas, Romaine lettuce, olives, tomatoes, cucumbers and feta to grilled broccoli topped with romesco sauce, almonds and Manchego cheese.

Death in the Afternoon will be open Monday through Friday from 11am to 3pm. Look for a weekend brunch and opportunities for private evening parties to be announced in the near future. 808 Chestnut St., Downtown.
