Terry Warner had three things in mind when opening up a retail storefront: A selection that could mimic one-stop shopping, affordable price points, and, most important, a fun vibe. From here, Crescent Coast was born.

After travel stints with her family on the coasts and overseas, Warner took note of what regional and international shops were carrying and how they marketed to their audiences. But, she says, customers had to make multiple stops for an assortment of items.

“I was finding all of these great products, but they weren’t available in St. Louis,” she says, “or it was in a format that wasn’t designed for family shopping and having the shopping all under one roof.”

When she broke ground on Crescent Coast in August 2013—a quick work in progress considering the store’s grand opening was last Friday—she already had an idea of which men’s and women’s brands she wanted to carry: Big names that are top quality, without the big price tag. Think Southern Tide, Escapada, Calypso, St. Barth and Johnnie-O, just to name a few. Warner’s combination of these kinds of brands under one roof caters to an audience of anyone from middle school to middle-aged.

Aside from providing shoppers with a solid mix of styles and brands and running a fun new business on the block, Warner has another driving force behind opening her truly beachy-themed shop: Her kids, one in 7th grade and one just about to graduate high school. “I realized they’re not going to be around forever,” she says, “so I wanted to create more of a life. ‘I needed a bigger world,’ that’s what I kept saying. So that’s what I did—I opened up a store!”

Crescent Coast is located at 169 Carondelet Plaza in Clayton. Find the store’s hours online or call 314-726-7979 for more information.
