This Friday, August 2, marks the opening reception for emerging Irish fashion designer Sinead Lawlor, whose exhibition comes to St. Louis as part of Craft Alliance’s Fashion Lab during the recurring First Fridays in Grand Center. Lawlor, who lives and works in New York City, is internationally known for her unique designs and intricate prints; visitors will be able to view and purchase her pieces at her trunk show at Craft Alliance Downtown in the Kranzberg Arts Center.

Inspired by contemporary New York culture, behavior and society, Lawlor’s collection combines bold colors and fabrics with digital prints, giving them a signature 3D depth through her mix of textures, pattern and embellishment. The utilization of the flock printing technique gives her garments a substantial quality that is balanced by lightness and elegance, making each piece extremely wearable.

After completing her MFA in Fashion Design & Society at Parsons, The New School for Design in 2012, her graduate collection was featured at New York Fashion Week and in publications including Women’s Wear Daily, Vogue Italia, L’Officiel Turkey, Style.com and The New York Times. Lawlor has worked with designers from all over the world including Marks and Spencer and Gamze Saracoglu in Turkey, and Diane Von Furstenberg in New York.

During Friday’s opening reception, visitors will be able to watch an artist-made video, meet Lawlor and shop a breathtaking collection of her newest designs. The trunk show will continue on Saturday, August 3 from 11-3pm, and the exhibition runs through August 25. Read more about the event here.
