Country Music Star Josh Kelley to Play Five Acres Animal Shelter Benefit in St. Charles
Country star Josh Kelley is bringing his musical talents to St. Louis for a cause near and dear to his heart: animals. The accomplished singer-songwriter will be giving an intimate performance at “Uncorked: A Cause for the Paws” benefiting Five Acres Animal Shelter at the Foundry Art Centre in St. Charles on May 17.
The fundraising event provides audiences with a uniquely up-close-and-personal experience. “The acoustic show is the best format to shine in, to really relate to people and tell stories,” Kelley says. “It feels like sitting on a couch with a bunch of new friends.”
“Uncorked” guests will enjoy wine and beer tastings, as well as nibbles and a silent auction. Proceeds of the event benefit Five Acres Animal Shelter and their animal advocacy programs. The local organization is a no-kill shelter and will never euthanize an animal due to lack of space.
This pro-animal mission is what initially drew Kelley to the event. “When Five Acres contacted me, I was like ‘Sure, of course I’ll do it.’” he says. “Any chance to help out, I’m in. I’m just trying to help make a difference, help people donate.”
Kelley attributes his passion for the cause to his wife, Katherine Heigel, and mother-in-law’s animal welfare efforts. The Jason Debus Heigel Foundation, which the family started in honor of Heigel’s late brother, promotes stray rescue and adoption. The foundation also sponsors free spay and neuter days throughout the LA area.
“We try to help the innocent and voiceless, which can be hard, but we’ve already made a dent in helping out.” Kelley says. “That’s why ‘Uncorked’ ties in so well with my help with the foundation over the years.”
At the event, Kelley will be playing crowd favorites as well as tracks from his recently released album, which he hopes will give the audience “a little bit of enlightenment” as a main takeaway from the performance.
