St. Louis’ Coolfire Studios has teamed up with SyFy for new reality series, “Carvers,” premiering on the network Tuesday, March 4 at 9pm CST. A little strange, yet intriguing, the show follows two unique and quirky craftsmen, Ray Villafane and Andy Bergholtz, along with a staff of eccentric sculptors, as they carve masterpieces out of wood, ice, pumpkins, chocolate, sand and pretty much anything their clients desire.

Not only is the show produced by STL’s Coolfire Studios, one of the talented artists is local as well. Bergholtz is a St. Louis native who got his start in illustration before quickly developing an obsession for sculpting after studying at the Kansas City Art Institute. His self-taught artistry is already highly developed in the commercial toy industry with clients such as McFarlane Toys and DC Comics.

Bergholtz, now a  partner of Villafane Studios, is a longtime friend who works alongside Villafane and their staff to create these incredible, larger-than-life works of art from unconventional materials for clients ranging from high-end corporate events to state fairs and birthday parties.

The show is sure to amaze viewers as the artists take on the act of sculpting out of anything and everything they can and will likely push the boundaries of materials as the show continues. Catch the one-hour special on the SyFy Network on Tuesday, March 4 at 9pm CST.
