Furthering Saint Louis Fashion Week’s passion for spotlighting a new generation of innovative fashion designers, the mission of the Saint Louis Fashion Fund’s Emerging Designer Award presented by Brown Shoe Company, is to offer a platform for aspiring designers living in the Midwest region and the United States to gain the attention of national press and buyers, and to financially support one designer. The top six designers have been chosen by the Saint Louis Fashion Fund panel, a group of editors, buyers and marketing professionals. The Saint Louis Fashion Fund is a new organization that will play an integral role in the development and growth of the Saint Louis fashion community, and this award will be one of many contributions that the fund will make to the local fashion community. On October 15, 2014, the six finalists will present their collections, and one designer will be selected by our expert judging panel, led by New York Fashion Week creator, Fern Mallis, to receive an award of $15,000. Exploration and Examination of the Impact of Fashion on Cities, Culture and Economy

Steinberg Auditorium at the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Art

    Washington University in St. Louis

    Saturday, October 18

    9am-4pm

For the first time, Saint Louis Fashion Week presents a day devoted to a discussion about fashion across multiple platforms, prompted by questions, considerations and observations by renowned industry leaders, scholars, civic leadership and community advocates.

As we proudly take inventory of our assets, these discussions probe at the realities of what it means to support a fashion industry in our community. Is St. Louis ready to resuscitate a fashion industry? What are the barriers we need to overcome? Inspiration, models and anecdotes shared by those at the national level, including Fern Mallis, founder of New York Fashion Week, will be featured in the opening keynote.

The afternoon presents two tracks of concurrent sessions, one focused on career development for emerging and mid-career professionals: designers, stylists, art directors, writers, marketers. The second track is organized around several artist talks and lectures by faculty at the Sam Fox School that consider and examine the impact fashion has on contemporary culture.
