Winner of Project:Design! Fall 2012

Every so often, a new face hits the scene and blows everyone away. Skill, dedication and a glowing personality place Lauren Bander in a league of her own. The young designer debuted her LB Spring 2013 collection at Project:Design! in 2012 and left the judges in awe. The line embraced current trends in fabric, cut and color without losing sight of the bigger picture, resulting in an expertly executed collection.

Not one to take steps backward, Bander leveraged the success and jumped on new opportunities that came her way. “Winning helped solidify me as a designer,” she says. New York Fashion Week was next on LB’s list with Kansas City Fashion Week following just 14 short days after. In spite of her busy travel schedule, the designer is staying focused and looking to Paris to keep her inspired. “With each design, I try to envision it walking down the street of the city. I have been there twice and absolutely fell in love with everything…when I’m designing, I mentally take myself back to some of my favorite places,” she says.

But the City of Light isn’t Bander’s only source of inspiration. After a series of less than pleasant dreams left her a little distraught, the designer decided to turn negativity into positivity via her most recent designs. “I wanted to try and turn something ugly into something beautiful,” she explains. “So while the color story is very dark, the designs are beautiful and feminine.” If you were looking for some motivation to follow your dreams, look no further—Lauren Bander is one to watch.
