Neon is on the beauty forecast this season

Confused on how to weather this season’s bold beauty trends? Highlighting just one feature keeps your look fresh and fashion-forward—without looking too over-the-top. As for pulling off the intense pops of neon color on the beauty horizon, experiment with top-notch products in vivid, yet wearable hues. Choose everyday colors like pink or blue, and then take them up a notch—or two!

Tropical Punch
Color blocking has made its way from the runway to your makeup bag this season with two-toned lips in vibrant, near-neon colors. For a sassy, yet toned-down take on the trend, apply a Caribbean-inspired punch-colored lipstick in super bright pink on top (Schiap by NARS) and an amped-up orange (MAC Morange) on bottom. To add cohesiveness, finish the look using a high-shine gloss.

Rosy Outlook
Sweeps of pink go from sweet to daring when the color is applied with a little nerve. For the most modern take, bypass basic blush tones and opt for something that speaks to the season’s craving for color. Yves Saint Laurent Crème de Blush #5 does the trick—you won’t be able to resist the opulent gold-mirrored packaging that twists open to reveal a surprisingly fun, jelly-like product in bold neon pink. In addition, Bobbi Brown Shimmer Cheek Glow in Miami adds some much needed warmth and sheen to the look.

It’s Electric
Dramatic cat eyes were seen all over the runway for Fall 2012. Our favorite interpretation of the trend was by makeup legend Pat McGrath, who created the look for Anna Sui using electric blue eyeliner. Achieve a wearable take on the trend by using NARS Matte Eyeshadow in Outremer. For major color saturation, mix the shadow with a touch of water and apply using a stiff makeup brush. For contrast, coat your nails in Kutki by Thakoon for NARS, a powderblue hue that has rightly garnered much attention. The limited-edition shade, which was inspired by Thakoon’s Spring 2012 collection, is deemed by many beauty experts as the “it” color of summer.
