Designers threatened a clean sweep for spring-turning out an abundance of pieces in sleek, bright white.

White is making noise this spring, and it’s music to the ears of every shopper in need of a break from the somber top-notes of numerous collections past. Seen bleaching out such extras as handbags, heels and high-fashion sunnies, the color succeeded in stealing the show that played out on many a recent runway. At Stella McCartney, a flower-embossed clutched bag with a chain that referenced the classic Chanel 2.55 contributed to a fresh feel; at Alexander Wang, a pointed-toe pump made for a mood of futurism. Altogether, the season’s effortlessly prominent accessories communicated a powerful message: In a world accustomed to “heavy-metal” antics and “more, more, more,” remaining classically clean is a surefire way to get noticed.
