Potential MomDoes my chart reflect that I should have kids?

Not everyone is ready or even cut out for parenthood. The fact that you are asking means you care about being a responsible parent. That’s a good start!

Your birth chart has several factors that indicate your becoming a parent would probably be a very positive and important component in fulfilling your soul’s intentions for this life. Your North Node (NN) in Cancer is a huge clue. It means that your direction of growth in this lifetime is toward the sign that rules motherhood, home, family, nurturing, and emotional intelligence. OMG! And the fact that your NN is in the 8th house of intimacy and transformation invites an extra layer of emotional learning and “surrender” that parenthood would most definitely provide.

However, it’s important to keep in mind that the NN direction, though ultimately the most fulfilling, is also the most unfamiliar and therefore scary. The more familiar, comfortable and seemingly easy direction for you, represented by your South Node (SN) in Capricorn in your 2nd house, is to be out in the world being a mover and shaker, running a business, building wealth, increasing your self-worth, and staying somewhat removed from the messy and less controllable muck of emotions that children and family can often be. Diapers, tears and screams! Oh my! Yet, by now, you’ve had enough experience to sense that what feels easy is not necessarily satisfying your deeper longings, and what feels scary just might do so.

I would expect you to have mixed feelings about children. First, we’re supposed to want it, right? Your past-life pattern in Capricorn and your Saturn in Libra in the 10th house might want to conform; but probably not a good enough reason. On the other hand, it makes perfect sense that you would be feeling a genuine inner NN longing for motherhood growing in you. Yet, that same Capricorn past can cause you to feel totally unprepared and lacking the right stuff to be a “responsible” parent. Yes, motherhood would be challenging for you, filled with difficult personal growth lessons, however the truth is that it’s those very lessons that your soul is eager to learn and therefore you will do better than most.

Your Chiron in Taurus in your 5th house indicates that you can be exceptionally sensitive to helping children feel valued and worthy. You’ve got an inner child that is chomping at the bit to join children in play and creativity, helping them feel wanted, capable and recognized. You probably already bring these motherly qualities to those around you. It’s merely a matter of transferring that confidence to a more personal and intimate part of your life.

Your chart indicates that you will likely always want to keep some level of achievement going in the outer world, so your child(ren) must learn independence and self-reliance early, as you are not likely to consider motherhood your full-time career. Your Moon (mother energy) is conjoined with your Neptune (spiritual heart) in your 1st house, in sextile with the planets in your 10th house of career. These aspects should keep your ego in tune with your compassionate, motherly tendencies and create some balance with your ambitions.

In the end, your chart cannot answer the “should” part of your question. A chart cannot show all factors. However, if at this time in your life you are feeling more comfortable with your emotions and those of others, and can sense some excitement about that, even as it still feels scary, then you are probably more than ready for parenthood. If emotions are still causing you much suffering and turmoil, then you may want to wait.
