Stuck In The Middle

Stuck In The Middle: I have the chance to go on an incredible adventure that could change the course of my life completely. The only thing I have to do though is give up my job—a job that I’ve worked really hard at for the past two years. I’m wondering should I take this adventure—an adventure that will only come once-in-a-lifetime—or stay at the job that I’ve worked incredibly hard at to get the position I’m in?

Dear Stuck,

What a wonderful dilemma you are facing! Adventure of a lifetime versus a great job. Thank your lucky stars (so to speak) for such blessings. However, I do feel your angst about making the best choice, so here goes.

Starting with your birth chart (life map), it’s clear that both career and adventure are important themes to your life fulfillment. Your North Node is in Capricorn, which indicates that taking charge of your life, setting goals and being an achiever is what you are here to learn and grow in your human consciousness. Careers are typically how we do that in the modern world. So, it makes sense that at a deep level, you give great importance and responsibility to building a career. You can trust that life will naturally support you in that.

However, your North Node is also in your 9th house, which means the area of life that you are able to grow these Capricorn qualities most easily is through exploring wider horizons, both geographically and inwardly (spiritual). Any endeavor that expands your view of the world and of reality is integral to the way you give form and definition to your goals and career.

In your most relevant past lives, you tended to stay close to home, preferring the emotionally secure environment of family and loved ones who you could depend on to manage your life and provide intellectual stimulation. You played it safe. In this lifetime, you need to get out of the nest and spread your wings.

Your Jupiter, in Virgo in your 5th house, trines your North Node, lending further support for your playful Inner Child to want in on the adventures in a practical way that also enhances possibilities for relationships in your life.

In addition, Uranus and Neptune, both in Capricorn, dominate your 10th house of career. Intuitive and freedom-loving Uranus will always stimulate change in your career, whether it’s within a given job or a change of jobs. Though you may develop a dedication to a cause, you’re not likely to devote your life to one job, one organization.

Neptune’s influence is to bring your mystic heart’s longing into the mix. Your career visions and goals may sometimes begin as idealistic or illusionary, but if you follow your heart, and continue to build your organizational, management and leadership skills, success will follow you. Planning and working “outside the box” is part of your recipe, making room for your sensitive and compassionate Pisces/12th house Sun (ego) to find higher purpose.

Now, looking at your current transits, a few key dynamics are in play. Most powerfully, Pluto just began a 12-year visit through your career house (10th) this year, which means no matter what you do, your career path is going to be a source of transformation during these years. When Saturn and Jupiter join Pluto there in about three years, you can expect some opportunities and clarity for where that is taking you. By the time of your Saturn Return at age 29, you’ll gain a much deeper sense of your career purpose, and feel the strength and support to commit. An increased connection to networks of innovative associates and friends will be a source of empowerment.

Before then, you’ve got some explorin’ to do. With Uranus about to cross your Aries Ascendant (rising sign), your sense of self and the way people perceive you is about to change, aligning your ego’s expression more authentically to your soul’s intentions. This will no doubt involve an integration of the understandings and meanings you could gain through your adventures.

Stuck, I suggest you look at your “position” in your current job as an asset you can take with you anywhere. No doubt you have gained skills, attributes, and confidence that will serve you well into the future. Trust that, and follow your heart. With your Pisces Sun in your 12th house, it’s how you will be recognized as a leader.
