Arts + Culture News: Grove Fest Lineup Released

The St. Louis Murmuration Festival just released the full list of food vendors for their upcoming 2016 conference at the Cortex Innovation Community. Restaurants at the festival include Drunken Fish, Ices Plain & Fancy, Juniper, Lorusso’s Cucina, Lulu’s Seafood & Dim Sum, Milque Toast, Mission Taco Joint, Retreat Gastropub, Sameem Afghan, and Straub’s. These food options will be available to festival attendees from 11am-10pm on Saturday and Sunday during the Murmuration Festival. 4320 Forest Park Ave., Central West End

The Regional Arts Commission presents, “Designed to Vote: An Exhibition,” opening on Friday, August 26 from 5:30-7:30pm. The event is a collaboration between RAC St. Louis and AIGA St. Louis, and is part of a nonpartisan national push to mobilize voters for the upcoming presidential election. Artists featured in the exhibit include Levi Banker, Timothy Hykes, Jayvn Solomon, Kelcey Towell, Carly Antor, Ben Kiel and more, and the exhibit will continue through Nov. 8. The Saint Louis Fashion Incubator announced its inaugural class of designers: Donald Charles Smith Brame II from Dallas, TX; Agnes Hamerlik from Chicago, IL; Emily Koplar from St. Louis, MO; Allison Mitchell from Dallas, TX; Audra Noyes from New York, NY and Wilmington, DE; and Reuben Reuel Riddick from Brooklyn, NY. These six designers, whose two-year tenure will start in officially January 2017, were chosen by the Incubator’s VIP panel of fashion industry jurors. saintlouisfashionincubator.org

The lineup for Grove Fest 2016, presented by the Grove Community Improvement District, was recently announced on its website. The street festival will feature performances by Blackalicious, Particle, and American Wrestlers, School of Rock St. Louis and the Grand Center Academy Jazz Ensemble, and will take place on Saturday, Oct. 1 in The Grove from 2-11pm. Festivities include a kid zone, street performers, art and fashion from local vendors, and food and drinks from local restaurants. Manchester Ave., The Grove

The Houska Gallery will be hosting a solo exhibition by Craig Carlisle this fall, with an opening reception held Thursday, Sept. 15 from 5-8pm. The exhibition will run through Oct. 15, and features paintings from his “Big Heads” series and flower and garden paintings. 4728 McPherson Ave., Central West End
