Aug. 9: Hiatus Kaiyote at The Pageant
Haitus Kaiyote will be live in concert at The Pageant tonight, with DJ Black Body Heat and St. Louis’ very own Hawthorne Headhunters. Doors open at 7pm and music starts at 8pm. Tickets are available for purchase online.

Aug. 10: Artist Talk and Signing featuring artist Tom Hackney
The World Chess Hall of Fame is hosting an artist talk and signing with British painter Tom Hackney, on Wednesday, Aug. 10. Doors open at 6pm and the event begins at 6:30pm. The event is free and open to the public, and refreshments will be provided.

Aug. 11: Opening Reception for “Boredom: Problem or Privilege”
The William and Florence Schmidt Art Center is hosting an opening reception for several brand-new exhibitions on Thursday, Aug. 11 from exhibit 6-8pm. “Boredom: Problem or Privilege,” featuring ceramic sculptures by Heather Woodson, “A View Within,” featuring textile work by Paula Chung and Karen Rips. Limited-edition prints from the Schmidt Art Center’s Permanent Collection will all be on display from Aug. 11-Oct. 6.

Aug. 12: Opening Reception for “Putting It Together: The Art of Assembly”
The Foundry Art Centre presents the opening reception for their newest exhibit, “Putting It Together: The Art of Assembling,” on Friday, Aug. 12 from 6-8pm, with a gallery talk at 5:30pm. The show, featuring multiple assemblage and collage pieces, will feature more than 25 different artists, including Nathaniel Foley’s sculpture exhibit, “Flight of Obscurity V.”

Aug. 12: Opening Night for “Inherit the Wind”
The opening night for “Inherit the Wind,” put on by Insight Theatre, is on Friday, Aug. 12 at 8pm. The play, featuring Susie Wall, Sigrid Wise, Pete Winfrey, Jason Contini, John Contini, and Alan Knoll, will run from Aug. 12-28 at Heagney Theatre at Nerinx Hall High School. Tickets are available to purchase online.

Aug. 12: Unveiling of “Mourning and Consolation” by artist Jake Rosen
Artist Jake Rosen will be unveiling the first painting in a series of paintings examining the Hebrew poetry of the prophet Isaiah, referenced in the Jewish faith, on Friday, Aug. 12 at 7pm at Beit Chesed Messianic Congregation in Rock Hill, Missouri. Each week, Rosen will reveal another painting in the series until the entire multi-panel mural is displayed on Friday, Sept. 30.

Aug. 13: POP UP and SHOP featuring Kiti Choker
Mesa Home is hosting a pop-up shop featuring the handmade choker collection Kiti Choker, created by artist Lily Kitipitayangkul on Saturday, Aug. 13 from 7-10pm. There will be classic pieces and brand-new pieces available to purchase at the pop-up shop. The event will also include a special guest performance by Teszla with DJ Agile One.

Aug. 13: CKDC’s Annual Beat Kill Jam
Consuming Kinetics Dance Company presents its annual event, Beat Kill Jam, an all-styles hip-hop dance battle showcase, on Saturday, Aug. 13 from 6-11pm. The event is $5 for spectators, and there is a $10 entry fee for dancers to compete in any of the six categories: Kids All Style, Funk, Krump, Breaking, House and Adult All Style. Doors open at 6pm and the competition starts at 7pm.

Aug. 13: Foundry Music Showcase
The Foundry Music Showcase is this Saturday, Aug. 13 from 7-10:30pm, featuring live performances by The Mixed Nuts of St. Louis, The Weekend Routine and Hobo Empire. Tickets are $12 for the general public and $10 for FAC members, and can be purchased online.

Aug. 13: #BEER: Celebrating St. Louis Breweries
As part of the St. Louis Craft Beer Week, Old Rock House will be hosting, #BEER, a beer-tasting event on Saturday, Aug. 13 from 2-7pm. The event is 21+ and will feature beer samples from Schlafly, Civil Life, Urban Chestnut, Old Bakery, Old Hands and Modern Brewery. Tickets include unlimited beer samples, and are available to purchase online.

Aug. 15: Hungry Young Poets Reading
The last reading in the Hungry Young Poets Summer Reading Series is on Monday, Aug. 15 from 7:30-8:30pm at the Tree House Vegetarian Restaurant. This month’s reading will feature poets Anna Leigh Knowles, Zach Alley, Clayton Adam Clark, Jessica Lynn Suchon, Timothy Leyrson, and Taylor Supplee, with musical guest The Farshid and Felipe Duo.
