Arts and Culture News: Give STL Day Brings in $1.3M

The inaugural Grand Center Arts Academy Limelight Gala, St. Louis’ own star-studded performance event, will be held on Friday, May 20 at 6:30pm at the Sun Theatre. The event will be emceed by award-winning actor Ben Nordstrom, and will feature an array of performances. Proceeds from Limelight 2016 will benefit the Grand Center Arts Academy Fund. The full line-up for Cherokee Street’s annual Cinco de Mayo celebration was recently released, and is available for online viewing here. The day-long entertainment is scheduled for Saturday, May 7 from 11am-9am, with performances spread across three stages. Musical guests include Tef Poe and Blvck Spvde, SO MANY DYNAMOS, River Kittens, Teresa Jenee, Martin Olivares Y Los Vencedores, and many others.  Cherokee Street

This year’s Give STL Day, an annual 24-hour fundraising event organized by the St. Louis Community Foundation, was on Tuesday, May 3. After collecting more than 13,000 donations by the close of the fundraising period, according to St. Louis Community Foundation’s website, St. Louisans raised more than $1.3 million. The sum will benefit the more than 900 local nonprofits that participated in the event. 319 N. 4th St., Downtown St. Louis

The Kranzberg Arts Foundation’s .ZACK Performing Arts Incubator is currently accepting proposals from performing arts organizations around St. Louis to become .ZACK’s first residents. The selection committee will select up to six companies to enjoy .ZACK’s performance and theater amenities. The Incubator plans to host its first theater production in January 2017.
