Are You Living In The Wrong Place? An Astrologer’s Insight

Living In Wrong Place?: Am I living in the right place? I am coming to a huge shift in my career and have a variety of options, one of which is I could completely uproot my life and take it to a new city, an old friend of a city like my birthplace or college town (both in the Midwest), or I could stay complacently here (St Louis), in the city I’ve lived in, but have no attachment to, for the past five years. I have a partner, and moving would mean a whole new city, and state for that matter, for him, as well as moving away from his entire family. This is a big question in my life right now and I don’t know if my natal chart could give any insight, but it would be nice to know if I’m a long-term St. Louisan, or if I should pack up and give someplace new a try (Denver? California? Northwest?). Moving apartments within a city is tough, any chance you could help mentally and physically prepare me if I should be getting a long-distance U-haul booked?

Dear LIWP,

When astrologers do “relocation readings,” we have a couple methods for exploring the meanings and implications of where you might live or travel on the planet. One way is to look at your birth chart and seek clues for the role of travel and movement in your soul’s life plan. The other way is to bring up astro-maps that show us how the placement of planets in your birth chart relate to different locations on earth. As with most of astrology, neither method provides absolute answers, but when we blend the two together, they can validate and reinforce what your intuition may be telling you.

LIWP, you know your Sun is in Capricorn, but did you know you have four additional planets in that sign? That makes all that Carpicornian need for order, responsibility and accomplishment magnified even more in your personality. It’s basic to your ego’s nature to want to work and have a career, so whereever you choose to live, career rules.

However, four of those Cap planets are in your 9th house, indicating that the earthy, practical leader in you needs adventure, exploration and expansion in order to feel fully realized and fulfilled. This could mean lots of travel or many relocations over the course of your life. Alternatively, on the inner level, spiritual travel and expansion through religious or metaphysical studies could satisfy this wanderlust if you have a way to channel your learnings into your career endeavors.

Your North Node is in Pisces in your 11th house. Ultimately, at the core of your soul’s life plan is to shift your life orientation from an over-reliance on logic and the rational mind toward a more heart-centered and feeling-based devotion to your inner soul awareness. For you, this is most easily attained through the kindred souls you associate with as friends, colleagues and community.

Your Venus in Sagittarius in your 8th house and your Mars in the 12th suggests that the best life partner for you is someone who is also attracted to adventure, travel, and spiritual growth. The problem is that your Libra Moon (emotional self) is opposing Mars (assertion) and squaring Sun/Neptune (inspiration and compassion), meaning you tend to defer to serving your loved ones as a way to manage feelings, theirs and yours, instead of giving your own feelings a stronger role in directing your choices. This is where soulful friends and colleagues could help you get perspective.

When we turn to the “mapping” method of exploring your question, the above concerns are given geographical focus. Anywhere in the Midwest is going to bring out that Sun/Neptune/Mars/Moon complex more strongly; less so in your birth city, where your mind becomes more dominant. In Denver, most of that recedes somewhat, while the Moon (your emotions) becomes more prominent. That could help you learn and trust feelings more. Saturn sits halfway between Chicago and Denver, so your Capricorn career-driven self remains strong in either place.

If you want to give a boost to your soul purpose awareness and mystic (north node) and to your personal relationships (Venus), the West Coast is the place: more intense toward southern Cal, but definitely in play in the Northwest.

Remember that the differences in location are subtle. Your basic life dynamics, as reflected in your birth chart, are still in play wherever you are, but you will feel some differences that can affect outcomes, though it could take time.

Overall, it’s not so much about location for you, LIWP, though it could make a difference. More important is your choice of friends and associates and whether you are turning your attention to your inner life and trusting your intuition. For you, more than most, that is living in the right place.
