ALIVE Extra: Project:Design! Dinner At Heirloom Room

 In Style

Nina Ganci, St. Louis fashion advocate and owner of Skif, hosted a private event for Project:Design! contestants at the beautiful Heirloom Room on Cherokee Street. The six contenders for the $30,000 prize package mixed and mingled with select local designers, Saint Louis Fashion Week founders and influencers over cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, sharing stories, laughs and inspiration.

The evening began with an exclusive preview of the designers’ collections. Contenders in 2013 include Miita Collection, Spansen Filles, Fouche, Black by Maria Silver, Abaya Dake and Q Lui. Guests including “Project Runway” alumnus Laura Kathleen, Michael Drummond, Casanova and Viktor Luna chatted up the designers about their inspirations and techniques.

The group then shared their stories—from Dwight Carter’s creation of Project:Design! in 2007, to Paulie Gibson’s recent rebrand and Anna Friss’ road warrior journey with Blue Bird Apparel; local and national designers of the like bonded over a true passion and love for their craft. The message was clear and simple: Stay true to yourself, work hard, take risks and the rewards will soon follow.

The importance of Project:Design! to St. Louis is clear—it is a platform that will assist local designers in taking their talent and craft to the next level. This year’s event is stocked with top-notch talent from STL and beyond. Snag your tickets for the event, held tonight at Windows on Washington and see the action and fashion for yourselves.
