A Healthy Sports Bar in South St. Louis City
The term “sports bar” doesn’t have to immediately bring images of greasy snacks to mind. While we love a side of French fries, it’s nice to know St. Louis offers a solid alternative in the form of Champs on Jefferson, a brand-new eatery in South City’s Gravois Park neighborhood near the Lemp Brewery. Co-owners Lassad Jelitti and chef Anthony Stewart sought to craft more of a sports bistro than a traditional sports bar, although you’ll still find all the delicious trappings of both.
Stewart and co-chef Marlon Whitfield have filled the menu with updated versions of traditional classics with a fresh twist, like the ground lamb or turkey burger, house salad with fresh vegetables and lentil soup. But you’ll still find favorites like fried mushroom poppers, served with homemade ranch dressing.
The quiet upstairs clubhouse has the perfect workplace ambiance, with rich wood floors, exposed brick walls, natural light and Wi-Fi. Champs also features formidable specials, which include $2 shots, tacos and hookah every Tuesday, and on Fridays every menu item is $5. Open from 4-11 p.m. daily, you’ll love this new local spot that brings something new to the proverbial (and literal) table.
