A Charming, Must-Visit Shop Just Outside of Chicago

 In Guide, Style

A unique evening out for some could be dinner at an adventurous restaurant and an envelope-pushing independent film, and for some in the town of Mount Prospect in Illinois, it could be an evening of wine and a crafting workshop, like one in which participants learn the ancient textile art of macramé. The charming town rests about 45 minutes driving time northwest of downtown Chicago, and one of its signature exports, Gathered Boutique, is a locale where locals and travelers will find more than charming items and a workshop schedule.

It’s a space where art and creativity are alive, founded by owner Lindsey Kulak. Kulak’s boutique space supports local artisans and makers through her store inventory, which will lead you to beautiful, specialty furniture, gifts, apparel, home decor and more. She also happens to be a mother to four children under the age of 11, who are learning the value of creative endeavors early on.

The boutique’s workshops are also often taught by working artists, which include sessions like how to write with beautiful hand-lettering, make a photo board or decorate the perfect fall wreath during the holidays. The curatorial care is immediately evident, as each piece selected looks like it was once the diamond in the rough of its former home. You may find a weathered, repurposed cupboard, a vintage pillow, potted plants, clothing for children, gift items that can’t be found elsewhere, and fashionable yet cozy fall sweaters that can be purchased at a reasonable price. It’s the perfect place to stop for fall or back-to-school shopping.
