8 Reasons St. Luke’s Hospital Should Be Your Top Choice When Having A Baby
Congratulations! You’re having a baby. In the coming months you’ll have to make an incredible amount of decisions, some of those being among the most important of your life. We teamed up with St. Luke’s Hospital to assist in making at least one of those choices a little easier.
Newly Renovated, All-Private Birth Care Suites
St. Luke’s offers one of the few options in the area where you are able to labor, deliver, recover and care for your baby all in the same room. The newly-renovated, spacious, all-private suites offer several conveniences and amenities. Dad or your support person can look forward to the sofa sleeper when spending the night. You’ll also have access to free wi-fi, a flat screen TV and DVD player. Enjoy a private bathroom, hotel-style room service and if you are choosing an unmedicated, natural labor—whirlpool labor tubs.
Exceptional Patient Satisfaction—Among The Highest In Missouri And Nationally
Patients consistently give St. Luke’s Maternity Services exceptional ratings for patient experience and personalized care. In 2014, St. Luke’s Maternity Services scored higher than both the Missouri and national averages in all 10 categories on patient satisfaction surveys. Scores were in the top five percent of all hospitals in nearly all categories measured.
A More Personalized Birth Experience
St. Luke’s offers a free maternity nurse navigator service. This free benefit offers expectant parents a personal guide and resource through pregnancy and delivery, including one-on-one consultations, private tours and help with pre-registration, choosing a pediatrician, creating a birth plan and more. They also provide excellent nurse staffing ratios and experienced nurses who support a full range of labor and birth options for normal and high-risk deliveries.
Neonatal Special Care Nursery
St. Luke’s neonatal unit, the Saigh Foundation Special Care Nursery, offers intensive, specialized care to premature infants delivered as early as 30 weeks and newborns with other special medical needs. Neonatologists, pediatricians, certified neonatal nurse practitioners and specially trained nursing staff supervise the nursery 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The state-of-the-art unit was renovated in 2014 to add private rooms and the latest technologies.
Breastfeeding Expertise And Resources
For moms who choose to breastfeed, St. Luke’s offers a wealth of resources and support. International Board Certified Lactation Consultants offer one-on-one care, instruction and support for moms in the hospital, as well as telephone and private consultations available to the community. St. Luke’s has a 90 percent breastfeeding rate among patients, which well surpasses the 79 percent national average. St. Luke’s also offers breastfeeding equipment and supplies in its onsite Lactation Center.
High-Risk Pregnancy Support
While we all hope for a healthy pregnancy and delivery, it’s reassuring to know that St. Luke’s is able to care for women and babies who develop high-risk conditions and complications during pregnancy or childbirth. St. Luke’s perinatologists and other specialists are trained to provide care for high-risk conditions. St. Luke’s Perinatal Center offers a full range of perinatology services, as well as specialized ultrasounds.
