7 Ways to Celebrate Earth Day In STL

 In Culture

It’s Earth Day in St. Louis! Taking care of our beautiful city should be an everyday effort, and lucky for us, the rest of this week contains several events inspiring us to do just that. Whether you’re set to celebrate in St. Louis’ Forest Park, excited to vamp up your recycling initiative, or ready to throw on your sneakers for a nature hike, we’ve compiled the perfect list of ways for you to go green this week.

1/ St. Louis Earth Day Festival
Take part in the oldest and second largest Earth Day Festival in the Midwest on Sunday, April 26, on Forest Park’s Muny grounds. Rain or shine, guests will take part in educational activities, outdoor yoga classes, mural painting and more, all planned around the festival’s overall theme, “Earth Day Every Day…for Everyone!”

2/ Earth Day Eve
Need a little excitement to get you through to Sunday for the Earth Day Festival? Start the celebration on Saturday with some family fun at the Earth Day Eve event, a fundraiser supporting the St. Louis Earth Day organization. Purchasing advance tickets to this pre-celebration event will give you a front row seat to festival fun, food and live music on the Forest Park Muny grounds. To find out more, visit the event website and ticket link.

3/ Earth Day at the Confluence
Take a tour of gardens and view the untouched beauty found during the historic journey of Lewis and Clark at the Confluence Tower for an Earth-Day-meets-Arbor-Day celebration of nature and history on April 25.

4/ Earth Day Party For the Planet
Join the St. Louis Zoo as they celebrate the planet with live entertainment, activities, chats with zookeepers and more on Sunday, April 26. Admission and Earth Day fun is free. For more information, visit the event website.

5/ Wildflower Hike
Calling all natur- lovers! Plan to visit Shaw Nature Reserve on Saturday, April 25 for a crash course in wildflower identification and appreciation. Walk the reserve’s woods and don’t forget to snap a few photos.

6/ Recycling Extravaganza: REX!
Participate in St. Louis’ largest collection initiative for those hard-to-recycle items on Sunday, April 26. For the fifth year in a row, REX will help members of the community recycle things like CFL light bulbs and even small appliances just in time for Earth Day (and spring cleaning). For more information about this community initiative and tips for participating, visit the event website.

7/ Spring Fling at the Butterfly House
Visit the Sophia M. Sachs Butterfly House the weekend following Earth Day (April 25 and 26), for a fun and informative discussion on the insects that make our flowers and gardens grow!
