6 Questions With The Voice Contestant And STLFW After-Party Host Tess Boyer
Vocalist, former Rams cheerleader and NBC’s “The Voice” contestant Tess Boyer will be hosting the Saint Louis Fashion Fund’s Emerging Designer Competition Presented by Brown Shoe Company After-Party on Oct.15, alongside emcee, Hot 104.1 media personality Staci Static. One of the most notable contestants on the hit show, Boyer was originally picked in a solo chair turnaround by Usher, but was stolen twice: The first time by Blake Shelton and then again in the second battle round by Shakira. We caught up with the St. Louis native following her performance of the national anthem at Busch Stadium just a few days ago to get all the details about her experience on the show and what she is looking forward to the most at STLFW.
ALIVE: How would you describe your experience on “The Voice?” What was it like working with such famous/successful coaches?
Tess Boyer: Being on “The Voice” was the most amazing experience I have ever been a part of! I had no idea what I was getting myself into, and at times it was more difficult than I could have ever imagined, but every part of it was absolutely perfect. The coaches were unbelievably down to earth! I absolutely adored Shakira. First, because she’s a gorgeous, talented, successful woman and second because she was the most intellectual one of all four coaches!
ALIVE: What made you decide to pursue your passion for singing?
TB: I started singing at the age of 5. My father is a pastor and one service he asked if I would sing like I do at home and apparently (the story I was told) such a big voice came out of such a small body! From there, I performed in almost any arena/venue I possibly could.
ALIVE: What’s your favorite song or lyric?
TB: That’s a very hard question for a songwriter! I am the biggest fan of lyrically raw songs. I enjoy listening to a song that has substance and is compelling. That’s why I sing. I sing to express. I sing to touch lives and to share stories or feelings. Music is the most beautiful form of art for me, so I don’t think I could pick a favorite. If I had to name an album I would say anything by Gavin Degraw. What an artist!
ALIVE: You were a Rams cheerleader for a while; would you say that enhanced your passion for performance?
TB: Definitely! I absolutely loved cheering for the Rams. Being on the field on a game day was so invigorating! Plus, the uniforms are fabulous. Performing in the dome was far different than the show, but each so beneficial to my future career plans. I’m a die-hard St. Louis sports fan and have been invited back to sing the anthem at several Rams games and am truly appreciative for my Rams fam!
ALIVE: What are you most excited for in the Saint Louis Fashion Week line-up?
TB: What am I not excited for?! I am so honored to be a part of Saint Louis Fashion Week. I cannot wait to sit front row at the show on the 15th, but I am even more excited to get the opportunity to mingle with all of the fabulous and sassy attendees!
ALIVE: What can your fans expect from you next?
TB: I am currently working on a project (new music), so be on the lookout for that! I’m also performing so many different places in the St. Louis area as well as traveling around the U.S. to sing and attend events! I can’t put into words the amount of gratitude that I have for all of you! Thank you for supporting and loving me!
