6 Local Coffee Alternatives to the PSL

With cooler weather and shorter days comes a craving for the rich and varied flavors of fall. Coming from an office of coffee enthusiasts, I think I speak for the ALIVE team when I say I’m very much looking forward to sipping on fall’s offering of seasonal lattes. Though a pumpkin spice latte can be satisfying, it’s good to keep your coffee orders diverse. So, here are the local alternatives I’ll be enjoying this season:

Burnt Orange Latte, Living Room

Burnt Orange Latte, Living Room
I’m a fan of coffee with citrus notes, but the burnt orange flavor in this latte takes it up a notch. A dash of cinnamon on top complements the flavor. Pair with a bit of chocolate for a new twist on a classic combination. 2808 Sutton Blvd, Maplewood, 314.899.0173

Fall Spice Latte, Rise Coffee
Hints of nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves and star anise build a symphony of tastes. This latte is the Beethoven of fall drinks. 4180 Manchester Ave, The Grove, 314.769.9535

Baked Maple Pumpkin Latte, Kaldi’s Coffee
The latte that sounds more like a baked good than a drink is—to no surprise—sweet and rich. It’s a velvety drink to kick-start your morning. 187 Carondelet Plaza, Clayton, 314.726.2900

Caramel Apple Latte, Coffee Cartel
Personally, I prefer this fall delicacy served on a stick. Rest assured the candied, tart combination is just as good in latte form. 2 Maryland Plaza, Central West End, 314.454.0000

Nutella Mocha, Hartford Coffee Company
The hazelnut treat, usually enjoyed on toast and in crepes, is making its way into coffee. A homemade Nutella sauce makes for a sweet addition to an afternoon mocha. 3974 Hartford Street, Tower Grove, 314.771.5282

Gingerbread Latte, Shaw’s Coffee
More spicy than sweet, this latte with a hint of molasses will certainly warm you up on a chilly fall day. 5147 Shaw Avenue, The Hill, 314.771.6920

And for the non-coffee drinkers, here are a few fall-inspired drinks sans espresso.

Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate, Stone Spiral Coffee

Earl Grey Latte, Living Room
