5 Summer Music Events To Add To Your Schedule
It’s summer music season in St. Louis and we’ve teamed up with five top local arts organizations and music venues to bring you five events worthy of spots on your agenda.
Developed in collaboration with partners from St. Louis and across the US, Pulitzer Arts Foundation‘s “Press Play” series is a five-month program that uses sound to activate every nook, corner and expanse of the Pulitzer’s Tadao-Ando-designed building. Programs in the series include meditation classes set to a live hip-hop soundtrack; a curated record collection for visitors to play; movement classes for babies and performances by musicians and artists from May 1 through Sept. 12.
Join STAGES St. Louis this summer for its rock ‘n’ roll extravaganza, “Smokey Joe’s Café,” running May 29-June 28. Celebrating the rich song catalog of the legendary Leiber and Stoller, this Grammy award-winning sensation features nearly 40 chart-topping hits that span over three decades of popular American music. Reminisce with enduring classics, including “Stand By Me,” “Jailhouse Rock,” “I’m A Woman,” “Hound Dog” and “On Broadway.” Tickets are on sale now. Find more information on the STAGES website.
Audiences have travelled from as far away as Australia to experience opera at Opera Theatre of Saint Louis every summer. Performances are sung in English and accompanied by members of the St. Louis Symphony; those are only a couple of reasons why Opera Theatre constantly earns a spot on our agenda. Attend a Young Friends event and experience a show, dinner buffet, open bar and champagne reception, all for a $49 ticket! Regular-priced tickets are as little as $25 and subscriptions start at $79. The 2015 Opera Theatre of Saint Louis’ 40th anniversary performances run May 23-June 28.
The Sounds of Summer Free Concert Series at Chesterfield Amphitheater will run June 6-Oct. 3. Music begins at 7:30pm throughout the series and chairs, blankets, outside food and beverages are welcome (no glass or tobacco). This fun summer event, sponsored by Renewal by Anderson, will include performances from Dirty Muggs (June 6), The Strumbellas (June 20), Contagious (July 11), King of Pain-Police Tribute (July 25), Steven Lee Olsen (Aug. 8), 7 Bridges Band-Eagles Tribute (August 22) and Backstoppalooza-U2 Tribute (Oct. 3).
