The art scene in St. Louis is alive and kicking, and thanks to local events like Contemporary Art Museum’s “The Art of the Matter: Gala and Auction,” it will continue to do so. The formal gala, held at the museum, will be an evening of drinks, dinner, dancing and a silent auction to benefit the museum and its mission to inspire curiosity, creativity and learning through contemporary art. If that wasn’t reason enough to go, we thought of five reasons why you should attend the The Art of the Matter on April 15.

1/ The Impact
The Art of the Matter celebrates the four areas in which CAM brings its mission to life—exhibitions, education, community engagement and local art. The goal of the gala is to raise $650,000 to directly fund CAM’s work in these areas. By attending the gala, guests will have the ability to make an impact on one of St. Louis’ most dynamic cultural institutions and its entire community.

2/ The Community Support
The funds raised at The Art of the Matter will directly support the education and community engagement efforts of CAM. Every year, CAM delivers art education to people of all ages through its free public programs. The art museum is dedicated to increasing exposure and making art more accessible to young people through in-depth studio art, school outreach and career-based training programs.

3/ The Support of Local Artists
CAM is a launch pad for emerging artists—many go on to get critical acclaim!—and believes wholeheartedly in supporting artists and their creative endeavors in St. Louis. Along with their partnership with the Gateway Foundation, which has awarded 21 artists with an exhibition and a $20,000 honorarium, the museum introduces to the community at large to the work of over 200 local artists every year through Open Studios STL.

4/ The Silent Auction
With pieces from over 75 emerging and renowned artists, including KAWS, Yoshitomo Nara and Mickalene Thomas, guests will be able to view and bid on art, all in support of CAM and the artists. The work—curated by the museum—consists of a variety of media, including painting, photography and sculpture. Fifty percent of the proceeds the museum raises from the auction will be directly shared with the artists. By bidding on the artwork at the gala, guests will be helping CAM continue its important role in the local art community.

5/ The Party
Inside the museum, guests will be able to enjoy delicious cocktails and a fantastic party with some of the best dressed in St. Louis. After taking in the artwork along the walls dinner will be served followed by music—and dancing!—courtesy of DJ Nune and a brief performance by Missouri’s beat-box extraordinaire Nicole Paris.

If you haven’t done so, purchase tickets today to support CAM’s impact on the arts in St. Louis.
